July 1st, 2009

This month we celebrate Independence Day. I hope everyone has a happy 4th of July celebrating with family and friends while thinking of those who serve and protect our Independence. This month would be an ideal month to sign up with an organization; such as, Soldiers’ Angels. http:www.soldiersangels.org

Soldiers’ Angels show support to the military and their families through various expressions. Soldiers’ Angels extend support to the deployed, veterans, the wounded and K9 groups.  Support includes but not limited to the following: deployment support, donated baked goods, donated blankets, card and letter support, supplies for wounded, assistance with travel, and donated calling cards.

If you would like to know more about Soldiers’ Angels, send an inquiry email to ctlnc03@gmail.com

FYI

The last time I posted was last year in 2008. I was preoccupied with some training that took me away from the computer and had to catch up on life once I returned. I hope all is well and look forward to the rest of 2009.

Oct - Cyber Security Awareness Month

October 15th, 2008

October 2008 will be the fifth year of Cyber Security Awareness Month. The goal of National Cyber Security Awareness Month is to increase awareness about Cyber Security issues and engage in users in implementing additional security measures to protect their computers.

Government, nonprofit groups, and corporations all participate in this nationwide effort to get the word out.  Through media events, new research, and local events NSCA has developed several tools to help promote awareness including a list of ten things you can do during the month, web banners that can be placed on your website, and other materials.

Other sites promoting NSAM include:

Best practices for IT security management

August 21st, 2008

This expert advice is part of a continuing series from IBM best practices for IT security management.

Come out from behind the video monitors and take a look at what’s really happening. New technology trends, such as biometrics, are taking IP video surveillance to new levels of innovation never before imagined. Why stare at a monitor waiting for an incident, when you could be learning how to …

-Eliminate the need for one control room per location by centralizing multiple remote locations

-Use video analytic capabilities, including suspicious movement deciphering, facial recognition and biometrics, or even artificial intelligence to alert guards

-Implement and integrate software and hardware components through existing systems and technologies - using your own IT workforce

-Dramatically reduce storage through new technologies, with drives for first-day recordings and arrays for archiving

The authors of the white paper are Eric Fullerton, president of Milestone Systems Inc., the world’s leading developer of open platform IP video management software; and, John Blem, CTO and cofounder of Milestone Systems.
