Health and Fitness

Physical fitness is an important part of life. As reported on healthierus.gov, being active for 30-60 minutes on most days can help build strength and fitness, relax and reduce stress, increase energy, and improve sleep.

Soldiers in the US Army subscribe to a daily physical regimen that supports a reduction in heart disease and other conditions, such as colon cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, and high blood pressure.

Everyone can apply some of the same methods the Army use to reach physical fitness goals. Be aware there is a President Challenge, are you up to it?   yes or no

Words Echo in my Brain Hallways

I can’t seem to get the words of the Soldier’s Creed out of my head. But do you know how powerful it sounds when hundreds of soldiers are saying the Soldier’s Creed out loud in a formation? Think about it!

I am an American Soldier.

I am a Warrior and a member of a team. I serve the people of the United States and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.

I will never accept defeat.

I will never quit.

I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills. I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.

I am an expert and I am a professional.

I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.

I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.

I am an American Soldier.

Happy Belated New Year!!!

2010 has begun and I have not said, Happy New Year from blog land. Happy New Year everyone. I hope all is well in cyberland and you all have a great year.

Sincerely,

Dawn

Soldiers’ Angels Brief

Check out just a few things Soldiers’ Angels are doing recently… Inserts from Soldiers’ Angels Founders Notes. Be part of the support system - register at http://www.soldiersangels.org

Hard Fighting & Tough Living
The heaviest fighting right now is in Afghanistan, with conditions like the very beginning in Iraq—tents or even sleeping on the ground, monthly mail, no showers, no PX for basic needs, etc. There is also a higher ratio of females. Please help by joining the Ladies of Liberty team, donating items, adopting a hero, or helping with postage for the 5,000 packages sent out each week. Help make sure our heroes know they’re in our hearts as they face these trying conditions! They need us! [more]

“Blackfive” Joins Soldiers’ Angels: Milblogger on the Board of Trustees
Matt “Blackfive” Burden has been with us from the very beginning—even before we were called Soldiers’ Angels! I am so proud and excited to finally make him an official leader in this organization. Matt’s heart is with the troops every day and he does so much for them and on their behalf. He’s also our featured Angel (see below)! [more]

Blankets of Belief
Our deployed heroes who got homemade blankets from SA last year loved them so much and I’m so excited to do it again this year. You say you can’t sew? You can STILL make a homemade blanket! Please click the link to see how easy it is to wrap a hero in love and support. If each person reading this made just one blanket… [more]

Publisher Post Card “Female Troop Thank You”

If you have Microsoft Publisher, you can preview and use the post card I made to send out to deployed female troops. I have used it during my Ladies of Liberty Communications.

Pocket PT Guide

Do you need to train? Is a PT test coming up or do you need to get ready for Basic? Going through some old links and files on my computer, I found an electronic copy of a Pocket PT Guide.

Training Essentials & Misc

If you know of a female that is getting ready to go to basic combat training, you may want to share the list below and hold onto it. *

A list of basic combat training essentials for a female:

Some of the items you can bring with you on arrival to the training station or/and shop for the items later. Be prepared to get most of your essentials when you go to the PX the first time. Depending on your training schedule you may not have time to go back right after the first visit. (common sense)

For example, Charlie Company had the incoming trainees climbing down towered walls at Victory Tower the day after arriving. Think in advance!

*If you have people corresponding with you via the snail mail, maybe they would be interested in sending you a package with some of the items listed.

Shower bag (like a shaving kit)
Small packs of Kleenex (size enable pocket storage)
Baby wipes in small resealable bags
Quart and gallon plastic storage bags
Chapstick
Black pin
Brush
Comb
Nail clippers
Nail file (cardboard)

Celebration of Women in the Army

“Celebration of Women in the Army”

It’s important that we remember the generations of women, whose dedication, commitment and quality of service helped open the doors of opportunity for us today. There are so many talented women in our Army today … you would be impressed.”     - Lt. Gen. (P) Ann Dunwoody, in remarks given at her U.S. senate confirmation hearing, July 24, 2008 in Washington, D.C.

Beginning Oct. 20 through Nov. 14, the U.S. Army will honor the achievements of its women warriors as part of a three-week “Celebration of Women in the Army.”

Day of the Deployed October 26, 2008

Soldiers’ Angels will be working on the 3rd Annual Day of the Deployed. It is a Community Recognition of Deployed Service Members— Past and Present.

October 26, 2008  “Day of the Deployed”

Angels in communities can choose various ways to recognize our service members, from a concert, to a flag rising, to sending notes to all branches of the military…the sky is the limit.

I will be dedicating a portion of my time on the 26th to fill out Christmas notes that will be stuffed into Musical Cards for the troops that I will send out to the troops signed up with my Ladies of Liberty group and from SA’s general forum.  Join me in the Day of the Deployed by signing up with the Soldiers’ Angels forum, if you are not already a member.
